Come along and enjoy this special series of workshops and master classes – ALL FREE OF CHARGE – at the state-of-the-art CIT Cork School of Music in the city centre.

The Jazz Camp is open to everyone – musicians and non-musicians. The sessions will be of special interest to college, community and university band members, individual musicians and educators as well as festival fans. It’s one of the most popular strands of the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival – and it’s open to all.

David is one of New York’s top jazz guitarists and arrangers and has performed with Pat Martino, Cassandra Wilson, Cedar Walton, Jackie McLean, Les Paul, Bucky Pizzarelli, and lots more. He directs his own big band, the O’Rourkestra and is founder and director of NYC’s renowned Jazz Standard Discovery Program.

Listen and learn as David demonstrates some serious jazz licks for all-comers and opens up about the highs and lows of  life in the jazz fast lane in The Big Apple,  accompanying singers,  the quirks and grooves of legendary performers, getting that guitar sound just right, and more.

Here’s a special session for all jazz players and fans, given by the legendary New York pianist Bruce Barth. Bruce has been sharing his music with listeners the world over for more than two decades, performing on over one hundred recordings and movie soundtracks, including ten as a leader.

Throughout his professional life, Bruce has had extended collaborations with Tony Bennett, Stanley Turrentine, Terence Blanchard, Terell Stafford, Luciana Souza, Karrin Allyson, Rene Marie and David Sanchez. He has performed with James Moody, Phil Woods, Freddie Hubbard, Tom Harrell, Branford Marsalis, Wynton Marsalis, John Patitucci, and the Mingus Big Band. He is a marvellous performer and jazz educator.

Rhythm is the key to all great music and in this exciting session two of the best rhythm-makers in Europe will take you through tips and grooves from inside the engine room of jazz.

From Dublin, Stephen Keogh played as percussionist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and with many jazz stars including Sonny Fortune, Eddie Lockjaw Davis, Jimmy Witherspoon, Louis Stew-art and James Moody. A move to London, followed by Spain led to tours and recordings with Stan Tracey, Charles McPherson, Art Farmer, Jason Rebello, Rene Marie, Johnny Griffin, Lee Konitz, Peter King, Brad Mehldau, Mark Turner, Herb Ellis, and Benny Golson. Bassist Mark Hodgson has played and recorded with a wide range of musicians, from members of The Police and The Rolling Stones to Paul McCartney, Jamie Cullum, The London Symphony Orchestra and Mat-thew Herbert.He has worked with many jazz stars including Cedar Walton, Phil Woods, Randy Brecker, Larry Coryell, Kenny Wheeler and Greg Osby. Stephen Keogh (Director of the Global Music Foundation) and Mark have run these exciting workshops all over Europe.

Mark is one of Europe’s best bassists and played electric bass in funk and fusion bands, but was inspired to take up the double bass after seeing the Oscar Peterson Trio featuring Ray Brown.

Mark has played and recorded, double bass and electric bass, with a wide range of musicians, from members of The Police and The Rolling Stones to Paul McCartney, Jamie Cullum, The London Symphony Orchestra, Julian Joseph, Bill Bruford and Matthew Herbert. He’s a man of huge musical experience and this session will explore the many rhythmic grooves that underpin jazz, funk and groove today.

Enjoy a great player and educator.  This is a hands-on session for all-comers, jazz and non-jazz. Don’t miss it.

There’s no description more apt for New York star Sheryl Bailey than “A sizzling guitar goddess”, coined by Elliot Simon of All About Jazz.

Sheryl’s playing is unquestionably “sizzling”.  She has an incredible gui-tar technique and impeccable musical taste. It’s said that she can “go from zero to blazing in two beats”, but she is continually praised for never sacrificing melody and lyricism.  Sheryl is rated among the foremost bop based guitarists in the world. She has been an Assistant Professor of Guitar at the Berklee College of Music, Boston for years and a popular clinician at the National Guitar Summer workshop, The Stanford Jazz Workshop, NYU and lots more worldwide.

This will be something special for all guitarists.

Dick Oatts is one of the top names in US jazz and a jazzman of world renown.  

He moved to New York City in 1977 and became a member of the Thad Jones - Mel Lewis Orchestra. Since then he has recorded and toured with small groups such as Eddie Gomez, Vic Juris, Jerry Bergonzi, Fred Hersch, Terell Stafford, Jon Faddis, Lalo Schiffrin and Ray Mantilla. His big band experience includes the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Mel Lewis, Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, Lester Bowie, Joe Lovano, Paquito D`Rivera, Tito Puente, and Kenny Wheeler. He is currently professor and the director of jazz studies at Temple University, Philadelphia and has been artist-in-residence at the Amsterdam Conservatory since 1997.
