About

Yuri Honing is probably Holland’s most important saxophone player with touring experience in over 50 countries and a discography of almost 30 titles. He has played and recorded with jazz legends such as Pat Metheny, Charlie Haden and Paul Bley and in 2001 received the Edison Jazz Award (Dutch Grammy) for his recording Seven, featuring Paul Bley, Gary Peacock and Paul Motion

His jazz rock groove band ‘Wired Paradise’ is essentially visual music. The group was formed in 2002, originally with one guitar but in 2004 the second one was added. Saxophonist Honing blends the two electric guitars from different backgrounds (jazz and rock) with electronics, bass guitar and drums. The saxophone replaces the voice and unifies itself on many occasions with the other instruments.

Most compositions are inspired by recent masterworks from Hollywood, such as Kill Bill, Usual Suspects and L.A.Confidential. Though renowned in Europe as one of its star jazz players, Honing has developed a taste for people like Björk, Iggy Pop and bands like Goldfrapp and Radiohead.

Style doesn’t matter regarding Wired Paradise; it is all about communicating modern times through music. Honing uses jazz, rock, dance and electronics fearlessly to prove his point that jazz is not a style but a language.

Line up for Cork:
Yuri Honing (sax), Keisuke Matsuno (guitar), Stef van Es (guitar), Mark Haanstra (bass guitar) and Joost Lijbaart (drums)
