Paul Dunlea is the 2018 Artist in Residence
In a first for the Festival, we have introduced an Artist in Residence Programme to ensure the Festival is playing its part in the development of Jazz music as a genre while simultaneously supporting Irish Jazz Artists. Cork’s very own Paul Dunlea has been announced as the inaugural Artist in Residence of the Festival for the 2018/2019 period which will see Cork being represented at key jazz venues and festivals around the world through numerous partnerships.
Paul Dunlea Septet
Formed in 2011 by Cork Trombonist/Composer Paul Dunlea as a creative outlet for his own compositions – The Paul Dunlea Group – utilises some of Europe’s finest improvising musicians to produce melodic and groove driven music fusing influences of Jazz harmony, pop, funk and R&B.
Dunlea is a graduate of the CIT Cork School of music holding both a bachelor’s degree in trombone performance and a masters degree in composition. He has held the chair of principle trombone with the Band 1 Brigade – Irish Defence Forces since 2001. Each members individual strengths are showcased in the compositions while at the same time blending masterfully into a cohesive and recognisable group sound.
