Curated by Triskel and ECM Records, the programme offers a spectrum of cutting edge contemporary jazz that includes debut ECM projects and veteran ECM musicians in double bill concerts, a specially devised concert of classical music from the ECM New Series and film screenings. A pop-up Record Store will be open for the weekend at the venue.

8.45PM – OPEN LAND  – MEETING JOHN ABERCROMBIE

90 mins ¬– 2017 – Documentary – Dir: Arno Oehri
Featuring: John Abercrombie, Lisa Abercrombie, Adam Nussbaum and Gary Versace
Amazingly authentic, the film Open Land offers an unforgettably intimate portrait of its protagonist, jazz legend John Abercrombie who died in August 2017. This wonderful encounter is as poetic and atmospherically dense as Abercrombie’s music. A labour of love and deep admiration Open Land is a subtle and very personal portrait that gives an insight into the life and work of this outstanding artist. To glimpse genius on such an intimate level is nothing short of revelatory.
This screening is not part of Triskel’s Cinema Programme. Membership concessions do not apply.

ECM NEW SERIES CONCERT WITH ANNA GOURAI & ZSÓFIA BOROS

TRISKEL ARTS CENTRE
SATURDAY 27TH OCTOBER @ 1PM

The artists are collaborating in a concert of solo and duo works specially devised for the ECM Weekend.

Anna Gourari is one of the most outstanding pianists of her generation. Her playing has been described as ‘technically perfect’ and ‘dazzling’, an ‘almost perfect blend of fiery attack and poetic magic’ combined with ‘pure intellectual freedom’.

Zsófia Boros’ guitar playing is subtle and restrained, accompanied by a melancholy grace. As the subtleness of her playing unfolds, the attentive listener perceives its quiet virtuosity. Her restraint arises quite naturally from the knowledge of her own ability to become one with her instrument.
